AVTEC Basic (maritime) Training – Feb. 7-9, 2018 – FREE

How does making $60,000 in 6 months as a 20-year old sound? The maritime transportation industry in Alaska has some excellent career opportunities for young people interested in making a living on the water.  Interested high school students 16 or older can earn their initial certifications in Homer and tuition-free (normally $1,000)!  AVTEC will be offering their Basic Training course at Homer High February 7, 8 and 9.  Students must be able to swim and must have an interest in attaining employment in the field after graduation.  To register or for more information, contact Paul Story.

High School Basic Training (BT)
Students will earn 4 USCG Coast Guard Certifications upon successful completion of this training and the USCG BT Endorsement that is a required and HIGHLY valued credential for entry level maritime industry employment.

PSAT 10 – Feb. 28, 2018

On Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 9am on the Kachemak Bay Campus, sophomores who are considering attending 4-year college have the opportunity to take the PSAT 10.  Taking the test is excellent and economical practice for the SAT, which can be a gateway to college admission and scholarship eligibility.

Interested students may register by bringing $20 cash or check to HHS to the counseling office.

KPC JumpStart dual college/high school credit

High school juniors and seniors may take local college courses for credit towards their high school diploma and their college degree at approximately 1/3 the normal cost.  Be sure to consult with HHS counseling to verify the amount and the type of high school credit for each college course.
